Camp Pendleton Night Homecoming

This Camp Pendleton night homecoming was worth the wait.

When you’re a third generation military spouse, homecomings have a different energy.

Your parents and three siblings are there to support you, and all know what’s to come, but it’s so different when it’s your turn. Your mom and dad, who served two tours in the Marines, talk about life at the height of OIF and OEF, what back-to-back deployments with just a few weeks in between were like. And through it all, you sit and wait, wondering when you’ll be reunited with your husband, when it’ll be your turn.

And then, it finally happens. He turns the corner and you see him, running over to you and enveloping you in a bone-crushing hug. He starts to cry and you wipe away the tears because he’s finally home and you’re finally back together.

As a third-generation spouse, you knew this was coming, this feeling of immense relief. But when it’s finally your turn, there’s nothing to describe it.
