MV-22 Osprey Flight Line Photos

This MV-22 Osprey flight line session on MCAS Camp Pendleton was a perfect way to celebrate separating from the Marine Corps and transitioning away from Osprey life.

The last few months before separating from the military are the wildest ride.

I had a confluence of emotions when my husband was in this situation. I was, obviously, beyond stoked that he’d now be home for good. He’d been gone so much in the previous three years; now we’d finally get to live as a “normal” married couple doing “normal” things like going out to dinner during the week because we didn’t have to worry about night flights and duty, or planning trips more than a month in advance. But I was also worried. What would this person, whose whole adult life revolves around the military, do now?

We were so excited yet worried so much about what the future would hold. Three years later with a new career and a baby and a life we love in San Diego, it’s all worked itself out. We realized we’ll never be a “normal” married couple because “normal” couples aren’t separated for months at a time, or worry for their partner’s safety, or have wills or POAs just in case.

If you’re in this space, too, it’ll all work itself out. Just have patience, and know everything will happen just as it’s meant to.
