Navy Ship Homecoming | Garrett Family

This Navy aircraft carrier homecoming on NAS North Island was by far the smoothest homecoming I've ever been a part of.

The ship pulled in earlier than expected so when we arrived at the dock, Keli called Adam. He grabbed his stuff, walked off the ship, and that was that! Usually Navy homecomings are full of pomp and circumstance, but this one was incredibly lowkey: just two kids, their mom, uncle and grandparents reuniting with their sailor after eight months apart.

When the Garretts saw Adam on the gangway, everyone raised their hands and shouted. Keli ran over to the gate, ushering over her boys, all of them in disbelief that this day finally arrived. When Adam walked through the turnstile, their oldest sprinted over to him and their matching smiles could've lit up the pier. Their youngest toddled over with his sign, and Keli nearly collapsed into his embrace, wrapping her arms around her family.

For me, one of the coolest parts about this homecoming was that Adam's parents and his brother flew in to welcome their sailor home. Their pride and respect was evident, and it was such a pleasure to be surrounded by such love.

Welcome home, USS Carl Vinson!
